Reception
My client Booking.com has commissioned me to design a new office for them. The office building they will be occupying has been designed with a focus on healthy workplace principles, utilizing fresh air ventilation systems, passive heating and cooling technologies, and maximizing natural light. In addition, Booking.com has has requested that the design must aim to create a healthy workplace environment that promotes optimal productivity for their staff.

My design was heavily inspired by the variety that South Africa has to offer. Bright colours of the flag were included in the carpets and wall finished. Patterns from Ndebele and SeTswana cultures were used. The cow hide rug is used in Zulu cultures. Huts made from sticks inspired the wooden cladded walls and townships represented in the corrugated iron sheet walls. Lots of use of wood and leather as those are materials used by South Africans a lot. The office has a warm colour pallete reflective of South African sunrises and sunsets.
